Basically I have a 10hr shift coming up which means I have to be standing outside for the whole shift (letting workmen through security gates) apart from a 30 min break. I have been told by a few friends to refuse as its not my normal duties as well as being type 2 diabetic and having to deal with another health issue as well. Where I work is on high ground and open to the elements. Is this me just overthinking possible complications.........

Hi Tracey, sounds like a fun shift!. Not sure on what grounds with type 2 diabetes you could not do this? I guess if you have health issues exasperated by being outside in the cold, or standing around for long periods then it is worth considering carefully. Me, I'd just winge a lot more - so unless I could claim damage to co-workers ears I guess I'd have to think of another excuse!🙂

I’d have thought the risk of hypothermia was a greater risk than hypoglycaemia doing those duties Tracey! 😱
