Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi Everyon. Now, I am very appreciative of how the DVLA must ensure unsafe drivers shold not have a licence, but in this instance, whilst understanding the cautionary side, am rather upset at the reasoning.

I have been a type one diabetic for 48 years and several months, and a motorist for 28 years and several months. In all that time no incidents.

Three week ago however I had a minor accident and my licence was instantly revoked. However, there is nothing to suggest I had a hypo, in fact the reverse. A BM taken by a paramedic gave a reading of 6.7 (15 - 20 minutes later). I had done a test prior to driving and had my usual afternoon snack 1 3/4 hours previously.
I have however become aware if light headed moments recently, possibly down to a new drug. This has been witnessed by hubby and Endocrinologist Registrar. I am very willing to stop driving whilst this is being investigated but just cannot manage without my licence, and I am distraught that it was taken with no diabetic reason.
I have the Paramedic report. Is there anything I can do, the letter says I can seek Legal advice and Apeal at a Magistrates court.

I am bewildered.
I understand safety issues but this seems extreme, and any help and advice is more than welcomed.

Surely they have to give an actual reason?

If it just says 'medical' then to my mind that just isn't specific enough.

I'd see a solicitor pronto if I was you.

Or perhaps you should register your appeal pronto and see the solicitor second? Hell, I don't know.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
If the reason your licence was revoked was due to light headiness then I can understand that. So what did it say the reason was on your revoke?

Hello ddd

When my licence was revoked I had the specific reason given to me by the DVLA, in my case it was because my sight failed to reach the necessary standard for driving. I was also sent a letter telling me to attend a medical with an independent doctor for assessment and giving me information on appealing the decision. This was about 18 years ago so I'm not sure if the same system still applies. Did the letter and report not give any detailed reason for the revocation?

Presumably the police or paramedics notified the DVLA about you after your minor accident? Are your gp or consultant able to provide written evidence for the DVLA that they consider you are medically fit to drive?

I would definitely get some legal and medical advice on what steps to take to try and regain your licence. I wish you good luck.

Hi D,D.Dude good luck with this & i hope it works out. Pls let us know how you are getting on
