A REPORT published today says that the NHS must do more to combat type 2 diabetes in black and minority ethnic communities.
Figures released to coincide with the release of report “Diabetes in BME Communities: raising awareness, improving outcomes and sharing best practice” in the House of Commons, show a 21 per cent rise in diagnoses of type 2 diabetes in BME groups in the past three years.
With 28 per cent of Haringey’s population made up of BME groups, and figures from the National Diabetes Audit indicating that only 61.2 per cent of people in the borough with type 2 diabetes receiving the eight NICE-recommended checks, high-profile figures have called for more action.
