LONDON - Cycling fanatics in London are being challenged to leave their desks at lunchtime to take part in one of two stationary team cycle races. Workers from The City and Canary Wharf will be pedaling hard to be crowned King or Queen of JDRF?s Spin to Cure Diabetes, whilst raising money to support research into type 1 diabetes.
JDRF is hosting the fourth series of bike-a-thons in the UK this summer - in London, Birmingham, Bristol and Leeds - supported by the Macquarie Group Foundation. The Spin to Cure Diabetes challenges teams of five to push their bodies to the limit over eight-minute interval sprints on static Wattbikes, provided by TEAMcycles, during their lunch breaks. Traditionally, the event has taken place in the heart of the square mile at the Royal Exchange and this year on Friday 18 May, city cyclists will again climb onto their saddles over lunchtime.
