I've just opened my new blood testing strips to find the box & drum are different & there is no data chip.

The pharmacist said there are no more data chips to make it more simple, I rung coz I was worried they were the wrong ones.

I'm confused, what do I do now?
Do I take the chip out & it will now work or keep the old chip in?

Anyone come across the new style no chip strips?

What type of Accuchek meter is it? I have an Aviva and a Nano and just leave the black chip in for all my strips now - no need to change it, but you must have the black one in. When you put a strip in it should come up with '111' and then start flashing ready for blood.

It's an aviva.
I've got my black chip in from my last drum.

Ahh thank you! I was really worried

Should be fine then 🙂 Although the new boxes I've had ever since the change have all had a black chip in with them, just in case it's your first or you lost one I suppose - surprised there wasn't one in yours?

The pharmacist said they aren't doing chips anymore which makes me confused coz they have a sell by date on so what happens when the date of the chip runs out?

I think the black chips are just there to fill the hole in the meter now - they're just plastic, and they've somehow incorporated the use by date on the chip? Not sure!

Ahhhh thank you Donald!
I'd be changing my chip every time I got a new one, my meter is only 5 months old tho so I'm not familiar with the accu-chek machine

no probs when they first appeared I stuck one in and any more I got in a new pot I just put in a empty pot and keep it beside me other diabetic stuff.

LOL - I just lob em now in the normal bin as I put the box and the 2 leaflets in every flippin box) in the recycling bin!

Laura if you want a spare black chip I will send you one, I kept loads of them until I got fed up so can easily send you one if you want the reassurance in case yours ever fails - just pm me. Having said that mine has been fine for ages, I think it would be unusual for one to suddenly fail - have I tempted fate now?? Time will tell!
