Hi can anyone tell me when they had a c peptide test did they fast and take meds or no meds that morning.

I’m Type 1 @Karen999 but I had to eat and omit my insulin. It would be best if you checked and got clear instructions so you’re sure you’re getting an accurate result.

Thanks inka, I asked the diabetic nurse she said I could fast if I want but the specialist never said I had to like wise with meds. So i wondered what others have done.

No definitely didn’t fast. I had to eat a carby meal 1.5-2 hrs before the test without my bolus insulin, but took basal as normal and took bolus that morning just not with the high carb meal before the test. I had to make sure my bg was high (over 10) at the time of my test because if your BG is good then there’s no need for your body to make loads of insulin

You need to find out what the guidance is for your test as the range it’s interpreted against is different for stimulated vs non stimulated tests

I think it’s different interpreting the resulrs from fasting and non-fasting checks.

If it were me, instinctively I think I’d prefer a stimulated / non-fasting result to be interpreted. That way it ought to be clearer what response my body was able to produce in the precence of carbohydrates - how much insulin my remaining beta cells were able to produce

I've realised there also going to do a celiac test at the same time ,were you need to eat carbs. So im going to eat breakfast and take no meds. Would be so much easier if I could speak to a consultant 1-1.
Thankyou for your replies

The coeliac test requires you to have eaten a reasonable amount of gluten for weeks beforehand. It’s not testing your response to just one meal. If you’ve been avoiding gluten, the test won’t be accurate. Just something to bear in mind.

I’m thinking I only had C-pep test once, was told by nurse to try and eat something carby and sweet
and in the morning when they test my BS will be over 10 so they can see if I’m still producing much natural insulin myself.
Hope it all goes well for you
