C Peptide

Welcome to the forum, Susan! Sorry I can't help with interpreting C peptide results - but nor can anyone else unless you say what the result was!

Hi Susan. Do you have any units of measurement for these results?

C Peptide seems to come in a range of units. Common ones are nmol/L and pmol/L but other units are used. Not sure about the insulin one unless it's your HbA1c in which case 41 is just below the pre-diabetic range. Your relationship to diabetes says T2 so I'm assuming they may feel you've been misdiagnosed? That's a common reason for doing the C Peptide.

A couple of thoughts for you... First, ring your surgery and ask them to read out the results including the units. The receptionist probably wont understand the units but they can read out what is written and then someone on here might be able to tell you what the results mean. Second is that if your surgery uses something like Patient Access for on line booking then ask them to set it to allow you to see your test results directly.

Thank you so normal range as in no longer type 2?

I can't comment on that, I'm afraid. I'm really just trying to fit the numbers you're reporting to the text on the link above. (As far as I'm aware I've never had a C-peptide test so I can't even comment from personal experience.)

Ok thank you, its so frustrating not knowing what they mean.... I have worked so hard to try and reverse this :(

If I asked the question "I weigh 80 kg, am I over weight?" no one would be able to answer. It is more complex than that, you would need to know my height and to a lesser extent my sex and if I were a powerful muscular person or not.

The c-peptide test is even more dependant on other things , than is weight. All that it tells you, as you may know, is how much of your own insulin you are making. It is not a simple matter to go from this information to a knowledge of what your own problems are, even when all the other factors that are involved are known.

Your Dr. will have all your medical records available, but even then he may not be able to reach a firm diagnosis. AND I certainly would not even attempt to do so. Sorry but you will have to wait for an expert opinion.

Normally we tend to say that once you are diabetic you remain diabetic although in remission. If you were to go back to what you were doing before diagnosis the problems would almost certainly return.

Keep your fingers crossed and you may not need medication for many years, if you stick to a low carb diet.
