Have recently had a C-Peptide test on request from my consultant, and after getting the results my DSN is now suggesting I'm a LADA.
However, when I questioned the results it all got a bit hazy and TBH I'm not sure what the results mean.
As I understand them (given to me over the phone) the results were as follows: (I had two tests done BTW as they managed to lose the first set, then found them again)...

Result 1:
Creatinine 8.9 mmol/litre
C Peptide 46.9 (no units of measure)
Ratio 5.27

Result 2:
No Creatinine measure
C Peptide 32.01 (no unit of measure)
Ratio 2.62

Now I can Google as well as the next person but these results just don't seem to tie up with anything I can find and I'm not due to see the Consultant until May.

I guess it means I am still producing insulin but nowhere can I find anything that equates to these results.
From my maths A level I know a ratio doesn't have a unit associated with it - it's simply a division of two other values... and nowhere can I find the C-Peptide measure that is remotely similar to these figures.
Can anyone shed any light on these? Thanks in advance.

PS Does this may explain why my BG results are pretty stable & my rapid ratio is only 1:20...?

Sounds like a reasonable assumption to me.

Hi zx. I have my creatinine measured every month due to drugs I am on for another condition, and the results are in the 80s. I think the 'normal range' is something like 50-100. Could it be that your creatinine result was 89?
My c-peptide test came out at 4, which puts me with ratio of 0.4,which I believe is in theT1 range.
I think the measurements they are using for yours are different from mine. Personally, I'd look at you result as 4.6 or 4.7 divided by 89, which I. Think would put you in the T1.5 range.
Could you get a telephone consultation with your GP or a call with the consultant secretary to confirm the above results?

I'm not sure it will make any practical difference to your treatment - as far as I know LADA is treated in the same way as T1, so you would still qualify for options such as an insulin pump if you and your clinic feel you need them.

Hi. C-peptide results are a nightmare and it's not easy to compare. My results and many on the web say the good range is 1.1 - 4.4. Don't worry too much about the units other than moving decimal point around. I've never heard them compared with creatinine or the ratio thing either - interesting. I can't see how your results fit but if you have been told you are LADA then you are. My result was 1.19 a good few years ago and my insulin needs have increased so may be you are 0.4'ish using my range as I must be below 1.0 now. I gather c-peptide is only a rough measure anyway.

An update to my last post. This link show two different ranges for c-peptide using different units:

I Googled c-peptide and creatinine. Very interesting and it looks like a good easy way to measure c-peptide, hence insulin production, using urine rather than blood. Has to be sent to a lab but you don't need blood to be drawn. You learn something new every day.

Thanks for that link Dave, I still don't see how the readings I got equate to them though!
