I've been diabetic for 14 years, diagnosed at age 36. I was on metformin for a year before I went on levemir and novorapid. I saw a consultant yesterday who said he would do a c peptide test as he thought I may be LADA.

I have a blood test at 1pm on xmas eve and he told me to inject insulin and eat about 1.5 hours before hand and have a blood sugar over ten at the time of the test.

However i keep seeing stuff online that you should starve about 8 hours before the test? Any thoughts, obviously I will do as he said but just wondered if others had to do the test like me?

Could you ring the test center you are going to to have it done?

It is just being done in the hospital blood test department but I guess I could phone tomorrow just in case.

There are many different views on whether to fast or not etc when doing a C-Peptide. I was told to just fast.

I phoned up and it was confirmed to follow consultant advice and inject and eat 1.5 hours before hand, he did also say to have my bloods at 10mmol or higher for the blood test. I have waited 14 years for this test so didn't want to get it wrong. Thank you.

I guess it depends what they’re hoping to find, really. If they suspect you’ve still got some background production, then doing a fasting test won’t tell them much. What I assume they want to see, is whether you get any kind of insulin response when you eat.

Ahh that sounds a bit like he was saying yesterday. I will see what happens... it was really being done as he asked why I was self funding the Libre and I said I doubt I will ever get funding for it, and then after going into details of my diagnosis he said it was possible I could be lada, I guess the result won't change much for me thb. I am a little worried about going into a hospital due to covid is but I've waited so long for this.

Hope your test goes well today @Flo15

Let us know what you find out!

Great to hear that you have finally got the test you have asked for.
I had mine done after 12 years as I was interested to know if I had any beta cells left.

Let us know how you get on.
