Does anyone know if Byetta/Bydureon is actually still being made? I have so many nasty side effects from medications, but that was one thing I could use. It did make my heartburn a little worse, but that was manageable. Told I had to stop it earlier this year, as it was being stopped. I've read since it was taken out of circulation, but you can buy it privately, if you have almost £190 a month😡

They are now pushing me to go back on insulin as it would be easier...easier for who??? I ended up reaching 26stone 12.5lbs due to being on horrendous amounts of insulin, as it didn't work. They just kept putting the dose up. Since then I have lost 10 stone (5 stone with Slimming World and 5 stone after paying for a gastric band). Still 4stone overweight and struggling.

Thanks for any replies.

According to the Internet, it was discontinued in 2022 due to poor sales.

Ah, it looks like that was just in Japan.

I just found this:

Byetta, one of the brand names for exenatide, was discontinued in March 2024. Healthcare professionals have been working to move people affected by this onto a new diabetes treatment.

In January 2024, a National Patient Safety Alert was issued by NHS England and the Department for Health and Social Care to address supply issues with GLP-1 agonist medication.

Healthcare professionals have since identified people who were taking Byetta injections and, in line with guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, or NICE for short, switched them to Rybelsus tablets. Rybelsus is another type of diabetes medication

You should contact your healthcare team if you’re affected by shortages of GLP-1 agonists or have questions about treatment with Byetta.
