Am attempting to buy strips on ebay for my Accu-Chek Aviva meter. The blurb says 'BRAND NEW IN SEALED BOX 50 AVIVA ACCU CHEK TEST STRIPS DIABETIES NANO COMBO'. Does this mean they are suitable for Aviva, Nana and Combo (whatever Nano and Combo are??). Any advice appreciated.

Don't know about the Combo, but my Accu chek strips work in both the Aviva and the Nano 🙂

Don't know, but you could send them an email asking, the box in the picture just says suitable for aviva. Sometimes a good idea to ask the seller a question as you will get an idea of how good they are.

Did find one person selling a box of 50 for ?9.99 + ?3.99 postage, better price, and another at ?15.50 with free postage. Look at the pictures they all seem to suit a different range of meters.

The nano is a small meter and the combo is for pumpers. Think they all take the same strips, but I gave up using Accu-chek a while ago.

Thank you both. Vicsetter - will get in touch with seller as you suggest.

Sorry for being silly here but have to ask why do you have to buy them and why do you not get on prescription ???
Marie Told ya it was a silly question 🙂

The combo is the remote combined BG meter for the Combo insulin pump, and yes it takes the Aviva test strips, which is also used by the Nano which is a newer smaller (black) meter they brought out several years ago now.. the Aviva meter is grey/blue and a lot larger and more basic older meter...

Many Type 2s are told they don't need to test if they are not on insulin of certain other medications, so strips aren't prescribed and this saves the PCT's money. As long as the purpose is to use the tests to improve understanding and promote good self-management of a person's diabetes, then they should be allowed, but some doctors will not be swayed :(

Thanx For explaining Northrner I think thats terrible type 11 should get them on presc also

Absolutely! But not a chance in my area. Fortunately I've now bought 100 strips on ebay which is saving me quite a lot a money when compared to the charges made by Boots and other large pharmacies. So it's back to the food diary and trying out more recipes to see which ones suit best.

A P.s.

Another reason I need to test is, I tend to slide back into bad eating habits when I don't test! Also, have suffered a bit of 'diabetic burnout' recently. My daughter visited from Amsterdam and naturally I made the effort to provide delicious meals most of which I could not eat. So I began to feel deprived and fed up with it all. Testing really does help me to get back on track.
