My doctor declined to repea my prescription for insulin (humulin I)
I can't repeat until April 26 so face eight weeks without insulin and it's three weeks for an appointment with the doctor to appeal this decision.
Is there any place you can buy humulin I, or do I need to find a private doctor and get a prescription via them and pay for it?

I'm sure you cannot just buy it unless you have a private prescription. How about a complaint via the PALS system.
Have they said why they have declined your insulin, have you actually spoken to them as it may just be a mistake.

Hello, even as a type 1 I need to have a yearly medication review from my surgery. Sounds stupid, I know.
When (approx.) did you attend yours?

Hi, about two months back was my last specialist review. They set my dose am/pm and I follow that. It means that five pens last 3.5 weeks, but on the part the doctor set on the prescription it says 93 days. So I now have a eight week gap with no insulin.

Yes, the factor for renewal has been set by the doctor at once per 93 days. But following what the dB nurse said my five pens last just under a month.
It's a three week wait to speak with a doctor, I booked an appt today, but it's not until the end of the month.
I am diabetic because of the incompetence of the Dr surgery and Dr, and then the botched surgery I had later that cost me 50% of my pancreas.
I'll see if I can find a private doc then.

Can I suggest you contact the Diabetes UK helpline in the morning for advice as I'm sure they cannot deny you insulin and you shouldn't have to find a private doc.
The number is at the top of the page.

@Nbtstat Have you spoken to your doctor to explain the mistake? When they didn’t put enough insulin on my prescription once, I phoned them and it was added within a day or two.

I replied to your other thread @Nbtstat

I have to wait three weeks for a phone call with one of them. That's been the case with them for the past few years unfortunately.
Will call them tomorrow and see, a friend's given me a number for a doc as well I can try.
Thanks for the pointer.

@Nbtstat You don’t need to speak to the actual doctor. I lazily wrote ‘doctor’ but I mean GP surgery. Ask to speak to the pharmacy and/or the practice manager and explain the situation - that the length of time your pens last has been recorded incorrectly and so you’ve run out of insulin.

They should them amend your prescription and issue you with a prescription for new pens.

I find it very odd as although my regular medd (Atorvastatin, Bisoprolol, Gabapentin, l, Lansoprazole, Lisinopril) are on a 56-day cycle my insulin and syringes are treated as a PRN. On the last two years my total daily insulin has come down by nearly 20% increasing the time initially by losing weight (but have been stuck for over a year and then by lowering body fat content by incr asking muscle (a sort of constant weight weight loss). I know no diabetics on insulin who have not needed changes to type and/or dose over the years. If Diabetes UK and PALS get you nowhere go to NHS England/Scotland/Wales! I did once and they can really kick ass!

@Nbtstat , you could also speak with the pharmacy that normally deals with your prescriptions? I know mine has dealt with the odd mess up with my surgery.
I was prescribed on disposable pen of insulin when first started on insulin. I didn't realise this was wrong but boots did and sorted it out for me with the surgery.

Hi. If you have lost half your pancreas you should surely be listed as T1 or T3C and not T2? Your surgery is seriously failing you. I chair our surgery PPG and would be horrified if our surgery treated patients in the way you have been treated. Patients can talk to a GP by phone the same or next day if urgent. Ask to see the Practice Manager. BTW refillable pens are much better than disposables. At a convenient point I would ask to change the script but probably not now!

If it were me I would ring 111 and explain the situation as they have the authority to get you an emergency appointment with your surgery, I did on one occasion last year and I got an appointment the same day. Just a thought.....
