Hi I have recently started experiencing a burning sensation when injecting my insulin (both Levemir and Novorapid). After reading some previous posts on this forum I have started to think it could be because of my needles which have recently changed to a different, I'm guessing cheaper brand. Is this likely? I haven't been allocated a Specialist Nurse yet to ask. Many thanks Louise

Are you under the hospital diabetes unit? I'd suggest ringing them and tell them about it.

Who is prescribing your supplies then?

The GP is prescribing. I had my first consultation with the Diabetic Consultant yesterday and I did mention it. I should get a DSN very soon so will tell them as soon as I can. Thanks

Can you not ask your GP to prescribe you a differnt brand of needles.

Yes - it's certainly possible! Mine are still Novofine on my repeat prescription - and as we all have to get our scrips from the GP then absolutely need to tell him these are causing you a problem so please can you have different ones that don't. Only if the GP doesn't respond positively to your request, should the hospital clinic need to become involved.

Hello @Louise W

Certainly worth asking for your old brand back!

Neither NR or Lev have the ‘stinging’ reputation of Lantus (which is caused by its ph)

Has it only been happening recently?

Sure, before going on pump gp changed prescription from BD to GlucoRx Fine Point, using BD never felt anything injecting, GlucoRx was like sticking nail in skin.
