Hi the last few days my toes have had the feeling of being on fire , now this is only when sitting or in bed at night once I get to sleep no problems , I had the tingling in my toes a couple of months back and that went and all fine till this , my levels have come down from 62 to 51 and I test and never go above 7.5 after meals and I have lost 2 stone so I am confused

Hi Lisaa...there are many medical conditions that could be the cause of a burning sensation in our feet...one possibility is nerve damage in the legs...also called neuropathy.... one of the symptoms is a burning/tingling sensation in the feet...wondering if you have seen the Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN)... had your feet checked for any possible loss of sensation/nerve damage...of course it could be any number of things...but...believe you should get it checked out...since neuropathy is associated with diabetes always wise to have this kind of problem looked into sooner rather than later.

I agree with Bubbsie, you really ought to see either the DSN or GP, just to get your peripheral nerves checked. As Bubbsie says, there a number of things that can cause this, but the sooner you get it checked out the better.

As Bubbsie says it is worth getting checked out, to see if it is nerve damage. The good thing is you have got your levels down from 62 to 51, it could be that your body is getting used to the new level and trying to sort itself out. It does need checking out and sooner is the better for yourself. In my area the podiatry team look after this at the first instence, but refer one back to ones own doctor if needed, your area might do things differently and you might need to go via your doctor first. Wish I had acted quicker a few years ago as might have caught the problem a lot sooner.

I saw my Diabetes Nurse 3 weeks ago had pulse check and toes tickled she said all fine and that my feet were in good condition, so I am really confused! But I may book to see a podiatrist private and get them checked

I would ring your podiatry team and ask their opinion, they may call you back in, as there's a possible change or see your doc to see what they think, should be no need to go private.

Don't think we have a podiatry team at my surgery! Just have diabetes nurse and gp so don't know where to go from here

Hello Lisas.

All the above advice is good, ring the surgery,

What harm can it do ?!

Lisaa...please ring your surgery...ask to speak to your GP...that's what they are there for...you have symptoms that are worrying you...every right to call the practice...take some advice...they won't have any objection...the sensible thing to do.

Just rang my surgery waiting for nurse to call me back
Oops...posted the above before I saw your response...good for you...lets hope you get the return call soon...if nothing else...it will at least put your mind at rest...keep us updated...good luck.

Well my diabetes nurse called me back and she says that my diabetes has been well controlled so she doesn't think it's neuropathy or diabetes related.. but I go in 2 weeks for my annual review

Lisaa...surprised she would say that without seeing you...so you have to wait another 2 weeks before having the problem checked...from what you describe the symptoms sound severe...painful...worrying...so the DSN has dismissed neuropathy or anything else diabetes related (Well she doesn't think they are)...in those circumstances I'm surprised she didn't advise you to make an appointment with your GP to consider other possibilities...I have no desire to make you over anxious...however her response is frankly disappointing...dismissive...disinterested almost...the symptoms are real...not as she' thinks' diabetes related...likely another condition...if I were you I would ask for an urgent appointment...see your GP...sometimes we need to be persistent.

I am going to my podiatrist later today so I will see what she says

Good Lisaa...at least you will be able to have a professional opinion now...as opposed to waiting another two weeks.

Well just been to the podiatrist and saw the top specialist that works there, she was great checked my feet and it appeared that my footwear has caused pinched nerves in my toes, so having special insoles made , she says my feet are in excellent condition no problem with my diabetes I feel so relieved thanks to all that pushed me to go

Phew Lisaa...can imagine what a relief that is...possibly now time to put those feet up...relax a little.
