Hi
Can anyone tell me if eating burgen bread is ok for type 2
Trying to eat under 100g carbs per day but love a sandwich and is what I mainly eat at lunch as I’m a driver for a living
Thanks

Yes it's lower carb (if you get the soya and linseed) and tastes good! I've been eating it for the past 10 years, except when I can't get hold of it 🙂

It's fine carb-wise, but YMMV as to whether it has the taste and texture of an industrial product constructed from old tyres and the sweepings of soy and linseed bins 🙂

I have just tried Hi-lo today as Sainsbury's had no Burgen, well it migh only be 5 carbs a slice but the slices are not much bigger than a cracker. I am reserving judgement.

Burgen bread .
Personally I agree with @Eddy Edson

Each to their own but I like the taste of Burgen, and the slices are large. However as it has gone AWOL again and we can't get to Sainsburys at the mo anyway as it involves a bus ride, we are ekeing out our Hovis Low Carb and Waitrose's LivLife, which is very low carb but also very small.

I'm afraid I can't do without *some* bread.

I have tried Burgen twice, but do not like.

For the occasional sandwich /toast I use Tesco's Finest High Protein 400g loaf. Normal 400g size slice, 10.5g carbs per slice. So not super-low carb, but not too bad, depending on your daily carb total.

I find it keeps in the fridge for a couple of weeks, or you can freeze 2 slices in a bag if you want to keep it for very occasional use.

Morrisons do a very similar loaf, also labelled High Protein rather than low carb.

Makes up for its size by being thick sliced, I find. Makes a really chunky sandwich.
I only use one slice of Burgen cut in half for a sandwich. I am trying again for lunch still not sure.

It took me a while to like Burgen, and as it's thick I sometimes use one half of a slice too. We only have two tiny Tesco Expresses near us and I've not found their Finest High Protein in either of them, but I might venture to our Morrison's old codgers' early morning slot and look for their High Protein loaf.

Waitrose normally have LivLife in, and that took some getting used to, but it's ok.

I like the Morrisons Protien but it is not my normal shopping place and the Chiropractor is closed, so no need to go that side of town. Also the last few times I went specially they did not have.

Went off Burgen bread, it tasted different to when first launched.

Been buying a taste the difference bread in Sainsburys, whole grain multi seeded one, really tasty & not badly priced.

I have decided I do not like the Hi-lo, and hope the Burgen will be back on stock, next time other half does the shop. He did say that he only got the Hi-lo as that was the only bread they had in that part of the bread stocks.

I haven’t had Burgen for 8 weeks now. My daughter is doing our shopping and she goes to Tesco who haven’t sold it for months now. She got me some Vogel, like @grovesy said, the slices are tiny and 15 grms of carbs. It professes to be high protein! It’s still in the freezer. Using Hovis granary or a seeded loaf, 20 grms of carbs but I can bolus for it. Miss my Burgen though.

I have not tried Vogel.

I'm type 2 and love a sandwich or toast sometimes. I tried 2 slices the other day and it didn't spike me, but these day I have half sandwich with 1 slice usually. I've not had too much trouble finding it in our local Asda.

I’ve been eating Kingsmill 50/50 no crusts for ages at 17g carbs per slice but, in these times where having the substitutes box ticked, online deliveries, is vital or I wouldn’t get any at all; I’ve had some interesting subs from wholemeal, yuck REALLY don’t like that, to wheatgerm & seeded breads. I got the ASDA Extra Special Super Seeded bread this week; the 420g small slices loaf as Kingsmill No Crusts are about that size, 400g, but, looking online, there’s a 800g size with normal sized slices too! I really like that one & ordered it again, 800g, for my weekly shop tomorrow! It’s 17g carbs per slice too but, double the size of No crusts: with Kingsmill NC I have 2 to 3 sandwiches because of the small slices; with normal sized loafs, & slices, I have 1 or 1.5 sandwiches! So, I’m actually cutting down on the carbs even more by changing my bread: always subject to what’s available in these times?
