COUNCILLORS are furious after being told a ?vital? health service could be taken away from diabetes patients in Buckley.
Carol Ellis and Dennis Hutchinson hit out at NHS bosses following a decision to stop retinal eye screening at Roseneath Medical Practice on Padeswood Road.
The Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Service for Wales (DRSSW) said ?access issues? were the reason for the move ? but angry community leaders blamed NHS ?penny-pinching?.
People who are currently tested at Roseneath will have to go to Mold ? a move which has been branded ?a disgrace?.

Why oh why do some NHS Trusts make patients travel?

When I lived in Oxford, the screening was done at certain local opticians who had the correct grade of scanning equipment. The scans were emailed to the specialist team at the hospital. The results were posted to us patients. No travel, no delay.

Well apparently, Buckley is a bigger town than Mold LOL.

So the councillors of Buckley do not think they ought to be required to travel less than 3 miles to go to an inferior sized town - for the sake of their eyesight.

The NHS have said it's an access issue. But the councillors have ignored that bit and haven't commented.

It's further than that from my house to my GP surgery. And yesterday because the mobile retinopathy service at my surgery will not be coming until May when I shall be on holiday, I travelled 17.8 miles each way to the hopsital where the service is based, to get my photos taken.

It's only 6.8 miles to my 'local' hospital.

They should try living in a large city some time! LOL
