I haven't tested much since xmas as i thought i would have a bit of time off from it (not that i test much anyway, about once a day usually). This morning however i decided to test my FBG which i hadn't done for a while and it was my highest ever since diagnosis.........8.4. I then tested 2HPM after breakfast and it was 8.3. At lunchtime today i had a tin of tomato soup and (i know i shouldn't of but i did....... a couple of slices of french bread with butter) and shock horror........just tested now as it's 11.7 😱 I have my next Hbaic coming up mid-Feb and wondering whether they'll put me on medication which i was hoping to avoid for a few more years yet :( I'm still going to the gym regularly and i'm still with my ongoing battle to lose weight, any comments anyone?

It is a little worrying that your fasting levels are in the 8s, although I'm sure your read elsewhere here about the problems some people have with their fasting levels because of dawn phenomenon etc.

Did you test before your soup? If you were about 8 then a rise to 11.7 isn;t huge, especially after eating french bread, the main thing seems to be that your overall fasting levels are higher than you are used to. Silly as it sounds, it may have something to do with the weather and the season - my levels change with the season! I think you would have to do more testing to pinpoint where the problem might lie. Have you been less active over the past few weeks, or is it your normal exercise schedule?

hello Northerner, my FBG has always (until i checked today) in the upper 6's, no more than lower 7's so an 8 is definately a big jump. Apart from the odd indulgence at xmas i am now back to trying to cut down as i'm still in that never ending battle to lose weight (and my weight did creep up a bit after xmas with the extra eating). I go the gym in my lunch hour about 3 times a week so am still keeping active and intend to keep it like that. Will test again tomorrow morning to see what reading will be then and just keep an eye on things.
