Now I am worried, I have had my 2 injections as normal today, been for a 6 mile walk and get a reading of 26 4 hours after eating. I havent had anything out of the ordinary to eat and I have even checked my pen is working ok. I am at a loss !

Are you feeling well in yourself? I had a rise in mine for no reason & it's now come that I have a cold, eye pain & head ache.

Could you not have a couple of units to try & bring you down?

I am feeling surprisingly well so really dont understand it, I did think out having another few units but because I dont normally its totally alien and wouldnt even know how much to take !

What insulin are you on & what regime?

I take Humulin m3 2 a day, 20 units am and 30 units pm I have an app with the specialist nurse on friday to possibly consider changing to basel bolus regime

Make sure you wash your hands proper and do a re test on your meter , try a solution test to know its basic stuff but who knows

I'm not that familiar with humulin, do you know your insulin sensitivity?
I'd say maybe 2 units & see if it does anything

Sorry I can't help properly.

Thanks I will try anything at the moment feel a bit scared !!

Please let us know what happens, also do you have a spare meter you could use see what that maybe tells you

I have no idea about my sensitivity I am guessing thats its pretty low but thank you for your help its great that you replied I was sitting here thinking I really need someone to talk to, I think I will try a coiple more units.

Hope it goes ok shaz and you manage to get to sleep on a more stable number, I'm clueless on units etc etc as a non insulin user but I do hope that the 26 comes down soon. X

Have you checked for ketones?

I hope it works, let me know how you get on

I did check my ketones reading was 0.1so at least their ok., thanks guys I will have couple of units and try and sleep it off !

I'm sure I read something a long time ago about your body releasing glucose after exercise in certain circumstances. Can't remember exactly but that was the gist I think Could the long hike have caused that to happen and raise your levels ?

26 - 9

Well if that is the cause that would be a great solution I will have to monitor that, well I had my 2 extra units and went to be bed and woke up at 2 with all my classic hypo symtoms but when I tested I was 9.6 heart was pounding, sweating and shaking so I just some water and went back to bed when I got up this morning at 8 my level was 11.6, at least it came down !

26 to 9.6 is a hell of a drop which is probably why you had false hypo signs, I get them when I'm bringing my sugars down.

Glad it worked tho

Hopefully somebody ( Northy? ) can throw some light on what I read.

Mossey, it goes up short term before it comes down, it's to do with the release of stress hormones.

But anyway, mixed insulin is a useless regime to be on when you are trying to have any kind of normal life because it doesn't allow you to vary anything hardly at all which means you are gonna be stuffed if you do decide to go and do summat you don't do every day, or meals get delayed for whatever reason. Just a PITA.

Hang on for that appointment Shaz and get onto a basal-bolus regime PDQ !
