Campaigners have claimed NHS bodies in Bristol are "colluding" with private health companies, offering patients a price list for operations they could get for free.

Campaign group Protect Our NHS made the statement after hundreds of GPs in the Bristol area were given a list of prices for routine operations, normally available for free, and urged to offer them to their patients.

The operations - ranging from £160 for ear wax removal to £9000 for a hip replacement - were offered by private health company Care UK at their Emerson’s Green treatment centre.

£160 for ear wax removal? 😱

Aye, a bit pricy. Any Type 1 opting for a private hip replacement is dicing with death. Most of these hospitals don’t have resident doctors after office hours, and your average orthopod knows sod all about diabetes.

I know three people who have had private hip replacements. All three got post op infections, and one died. High price to pay for a private room with a menu with a choice of wine.
