My first appt with someone who appreciates that I know something about my condition - that I want to be I control and am willing to work at it. Turns out she runs the Dafne course which I am not allowed to go on - but also she was the same person running the Desmond course I went on last summer before injections started.
This meant she knew my base knowledge and my journey to where I am today which meant a whole hour on a one-to-one basis with other half present so he could ask questions too. Turns out he has been petrified of waking in the night and finding me unconscious! For his peace of mind if nothing else the meeting was worth it.
Went through carb counting, knowing when to basal test, knowing when not to do correction doses and so much more. She is happy that even in 10 days all aberrations in blood glucose levels I can explain - mostly my fault in miscalculating. Oh alright then ALL my fault in miscalculating but on one occasion I had not expected the dog to eat half my bit of birthday cake after I had injected for it!!!!http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/images/smilies/biggrin.gif/bmi_orig_img/biggrin.gif Will have to be reallt good to get good Hb result before seeing her again in 3 months time.
I feel so much happier this morning to know what I am doing is completely ok as all the info has come from your good selves and masses of reading your book recommendations. Not to mention the fact that I am going completely against the set rules of my nurse - and I still don't think she understands that yet. Why on earth would you want to go on MDI and then inject set amounts for meals without carb counting?
Anyway thanks to all for your part in my journey - I won't promise not to bother you again. Ha Ha

Brilliant to hear! :D It makes such a difference when you get to discuss things with someone who really understands you and recognises that what YOU say is valid and supports you in it - well done that dietician! 🙂

Pretty soon you'll be the one helping others who are 'bothering' us! :D
