Hi there. I hope everyone is ok...

Just a question. About two days ago my right big toe started going red. First around the nail and now spread up to the knuckle. It's not cold or hot. It's not swollen and I can move it ok. There's no sign of obvious injury. Do I need to be worried?

Thanks

Hi Andrea, I'd highly recommend getting it checked out as soon as possible - you can never be too careful with these things. It will either be something easily treated, or something that can be more easily treated because it has been assessed early. Don't delay, make the call to your GP and ask that it is seen urgently. It may be something the practice nurse can assess. Let us know how things go 🙂

Having had this happen before I completely agree with Northerner. I've phoned my GP surgery and explained that I think it is urgent because I am diabetic and possible toe complications. I've always been seen the same day. If you have no joy with the GP phone either your local NHS or hospital podiatry department and they will point you in the right direction.

Thanks very much AJLang and Northerner. I've taken your advice and phoned my GP surgery. My doctor will be calling me back after 11. I'll update the post when I have an update. Thanks again.

How did you get on Andrea?

Sounds like exactly what I’ve just got rid of, flucoxocillin did the trick, made me feel ill for a week but fixed the toe

My GP did some sensation and other tests and was sure it wasn't dangerous. Gave me 3 days of antibiotics and it's now nearly gone. Totally weird though! Thanks for all of your concern x
