Has anyone watched the live news today?!!!
Totally worrying now about how we are going to get insulin!!!
Can't sleep or think about anything else.

I'm not sure if it's just scaremongering nasty as it sounds. Why would a country like this with how great our NHS is compared to other countries round the world let something as bad as essential life saving medication be readily available and in plenty for us that need or require it.

The government is working closely with the NHS and suppliers to help to ensure medicines and medical products continue to be available for patients if there is a ‘no deal’ Brexit. ... Please keep ordering your repeat prescriptions and taking your medicines as normal. - NHS website hope that is more reassuring but none of us know which is scary in it self. Let's just hope for the best and that we all get our medication when we need it.

But how do we know that they are making sure they are making sure we have enough supplies?
They could be palming us off like they always do as they are just out for themselves hence why we now are not leaving on 31st because they just care about their selves

Delay Delay seems to be their motto and it's not solving anything too. Maybe just maybe next week something can get sorted but none of us know. All got to hope for the best unfortunately. Just try to order in plenty of time for repeat prescriptions as long as your surgery and GP'S/Diabetic Nurses allow you to do so. Thankfully so far I've been ok getting what I need and hope it continues. Fingers crossed and all that!

It just drives me mad that we are left in limbo as to what is happening. It's people's lives here!!!

I don't trust the government as far as I can spit! My view is that the EU is not perfect but we are better trying to change it from within rather than dreaming we can go back to the 60's with Wollie's and BHS on the High Street, and BMC and ICI exporting to the world!

O I used to love wollies!! I even got to work there one Christmas as a temp. And good old BHS was the place to go when I was a child in the 80s lol. Was sad to see that one go.

All the major insulin companies have had to take precautionary steps. They have 16 weeks supply in storage in UK warehouses, and have booked substantial air freight capacity from 31 October onwards in case of delays immediately following that date (if it even ends up being a date when anything happens!)

Important not to panic, and not to ‘stockpile’ (the increased demand of everyone stockpiling would definitely cause problems) but also important not to leave re-ordering to the last minute.

I have heard while this applies to the standard insulins that 90% are on but this is not the case for the older (dinosaur) and/or rarer insulins!

I personally feel it is scaremongering but I appreciate the worries people have at not knowing what is going. I personally do not believe in Brexit but I wish they would just sort it out once and for all. We can then sort out continuing trade which is essential for both sides.

Well no worries regarding pork insulin as that's made in Wales.

Pork insulin?!! Lol.

Nothing funny about either porcine or bovine insulins whatsoever - thank God for it!! Kept many of us alive and kicking whilst leading productive lives in many fields, paid our mortgages etc etc for decades (32 years for me) so that we're still alive to tell you what it was like in our day and also give you all the benefit of our previous experience.

Plus don't ever forget that (animal) insulin treatment wasn't even introduced until approx. 1923 - not 100 years yet! Prior to that, it was basically a slow death on a starvation diet. Also remember there wasn't the NHS until 1948 so you had to be able to afford the treatment, too. There were not usually live births to Type 1 mums until the 1950s either.

Spot on Antram, but with one exception.... What is needed is A withdrawal bill, not THE withdrawal bill that is currently before parliament. The problem with the current bill is that it will just create problems when trying to negotiate a free trade arrangement with the EU during the transition period. As one MP put it, it might have got rid of the backstop but it will introduce a trapdoor to a no deal exit in 2020. If you want to see what I mean, find Kier Starmer's contribution to Saturdays debate and watch it where he explains very clearly the problems. You will note that nobody contradicted him even when he invited people to do so.

By the way, maintaining supplies of medical products is a bit of a red herring, I really do not think that will be a problem. There are too many ways of making sure supply is continued.

I think its scarmongering.

EU needs UK bucks to buy their medicines as much as we need EU bucks if they want to sell their wares in UK.

We are not dependent on EU for survival and never were.

Below is an extract from an e-mail DUK recently sent to all of their local support groups. I hope it provides some reassurance.

“As you will know, in April the UK Government agreed a further extension of the Article 50 period with the EU until 31 October 2019. While the UK Government says that leaving the EU with a deal remains its priority, there remains a high degree of uncertainty about what will happen on 31 October.

The UK Government has overall responsibility for EU exit contingency planning and for customs entry and control. We have been in regular contact with the Department of Health and Social Care for a number of months to ensure that the safety of people with diabetes is not compromised during this time, and that uninterrupted supplies of insulin and other medications are maintained.

Two of the main insulin manufacturers who supply insulin to people in the UK (Novo Nordisk and Sanofi) have confirmed they have increased their insulin stock levels, from the normal six weeks stock holding to 16 weeks, to ensure no disruption to supply in the immediate aftermath of a no-deal. We do not believe there is any reason to be concerned about medication shortages at this time.

Diabetes UK continues to liaise closely with the UK government’s Department of Health and Social Care, and we will of course continue to seek assurances that people living with diabetes will receive their essential medication in the event of a no-deal.”
