A clear majority of the UK’s doctors and nurses think that the NHS will deteriorate after Brexit, with the result being longer waiting times and staff shortages, according to a new poll of medical professionals.

The survey by YouGov also suggests that opposition to Brexit has grown among doctors and nurses, with 75% saying they would now vote to remain in the EU, up from 66% who said they voted that way in 2016.
About 64% of those polled said they thought the NHS would get worse after Brexit, compared with just 7% who thought it would get better, while 57% said that the overall quality of care provided by the NHS would go down.

This brexit business needs sorting. It was hard to get into the common market in the seventies. Now it seems it’s difficult to get out.
Can’t see how it will affect nhs in bad way. As foreign doctors will still be allowed in. I can see it being like Australia’s borders. I couldn’t get into Australia or the USA. So why is Brexit so bad. It just monitors who is coming in. No nhs tourists so how can it be busier.

Foreign doctors might be allowed in, but only at consultant level. This £50,000 income minimum will keep out foreign nurses and junior doctors, foreign pharmacists, porters, cleaners.

NHS tourism is a myth. It’s a tiny proportion of the NHS budget, always has been.

But it doesn’t matter how shit the country becomes after a no deal Brexit. You can be sure the Brexiteers will blame the EU.

Look at all those jobs for our young unemployed folk could fill then!
Maybe not the Doctors unless a big recruitment drive was initiated and nurses sorry.
Porters and cleaners well anyone could do that.

Yes, but that suggests that there is a vast pool of available labour waiting to step in - there isn't, as the government delight in constantly reminding us that unemployment is historically low. Those without work won't necessarily live in areas where jobs become available. Even 'full employment' requires a certain proportion of the population 'between jobs' for society to function.

With regard to nurses being recruited, it shouldn’t be a problem in Scotland. That’s because Scotland still has bursaries for student nurses and midwives. By 2020 they will be worth £10k. In one of my more recent stays in the Deathstar in Glasgow, all the nurses on the ward were Scottish.

In England, of course, student nursing bursaries were abolished by the current government, so we know who to blame for the lack of recruitment, and why NHS England is now so dependent of foreign staff.

I almost forgot - in Scotland, nurses are paid more than in England.
