I am hopefully going away next week for 3 nights, staying in a premier Inn but not paying their prices for breakfast. Local cafes are a short (5-10 minute) walk away. My Diabetes control is taking a lot of time, energy and concentration at the moment anyway (possibly due to stress) and I suffer a lot with dawn phenomenon.

I am considering eating and bolusing for a couple of breakfast biscuits when I wake up and then later walking to a cafe for a carb free breakfast to try and avoid a massive rise in BG but does anyone have any better ideas please? I am trying to avoid stacking insulin due to unpredictable results.

I find hotel breakfasts hard as since the diagnosis of CVD I avoid sausages, bacon, etc. These days very much limit myself to a Shredded Wheat with a piece of fruit. What annoys me with Premier Inn is that if an adult buys breakfast two under 16s can eat for free. Their prices make me think I am paying for other people's children! Not fair!

It might be worth ringing the clinic's DSN for ideas - it feels wrong to me.

I agree about Premier Inn breakfasts, I would never eat my money’s worth at that time in the morning. We usually just have a cup of tea in our room, then walk to a cafe for breakfast. I can usually stick a couple of units of bolus in on waking, just to cover the dawn phenomenon, then bolus for the breakfast when I get to the cafe. Otherwise, if there isn’t a cafe close enough, I take a Nature Valley Protein bar to eat in the room before we leave.

We've stayed in Premier Inns a few times and always have the breakfast... scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon, lots of coffee! I do indulge in a nice full English (though usually not with baked beans or hash browns). We don't have many holidays so if we do go away we like to enjoy it 🙂

Cheapo ingredients in the chain hotel brekkie, better going to a local cafe who use locally sourced meats.

Robin is right, a unit or 2 for the dp and off to cafe later.

Thanks everyone, sounds like I am on the right track. Holiday hangs in the balance tonight, spent all day at the hospital with my dad who is now waiting for urgent surgery possibly tonight. BG has behaved surprisingly well.

Hope his surgery goes well, take care.

Thank you, he came home yesterday and is doing well. We are postponing the holiday as I want to be around a bit longer in case of any problems. Won't lose any money so no problems.
Glad that that all went well, and the Premier Inn will still be there when you are ready to get away.

I avoid their breakfasts and find a nice cafe, with good coffee, and something nice. Like @Robin I will deal with any Dawn Phenomonon on waking with a correction minus a bit as I am then going to be walking and I don’t know how far it will be to finding a good place. I know the first day will be a lot of guess work, but it is a holiday and all we can do is the best that we can. Once I have found a good place, and I know what is on offer I can plan (and drool) ahead. I know how much I need to change any DP correction as I know hw far we will be walking, I know if it is self service or if there is likely to be a delay, so I can make decisions about pre-bolusing.

Then I simply enjoy every bit of my breakfast.
