Hi I do manual heavy lifting work so eat big, eggs and sausages or bacon every morning, but I’m getting a bit bored now.
I miss my porridge with nuts and raisins but realise it was too high carb and sugar. Just looking for alternative suggestions also concerned about the amount of red meat I’m eating daily and the other possible health risks
Although my doctor said Sugar is the main concern at the moment not cholesterol
Most of the so called health risks are of no concern if you are eating meat from healthy animals.
It would be a problem in America where it is difficult to get meat that is not on its last legs before it is butchered, but in the UK there are rules....
I tend to add in some carbs just for variety, sometimes mushrooms, or tomato or courgette or aubergine - just to make a change.
Do you test your blood sugars? Did you test your porridge? If not how do you know you can't tolerate some porridge with nuts? I'm sure there are a couple of type 2's here that can tolerate some porridge, I may be wrong but I'm sure I've seen @Stitch147 mentioning she's had overnight oats before, test it and see if you haven't done already but possibly swap the raisins for lower carb fruit like raspberries, that's what I have with mine
You could try full fat greek yoghurt with nuts and berries, left overs from the previous evening meal, breakfast doesn't have to be contained to what others class as breakfast foods xx
I have 30gm proper jumbo porridge made with 150ml unsweetened coconut or almond milk, sweetened with 5gm Truvia. I add 15gm chopped nuts, 3gm chia seeds and 40gm blueberries. I tested it and it was just fine for me and keeps me going a good 4 - 5 hours until lunch. I don't have the individual packet porridge.
The Eat Natural brand have started doing a low sugar granola with almonds and seeds. It is only 33g carbs per 100g which is half the carb content of most granolas and it is tasty. I have it with creamy natural yoghurt and a few berries.
Alternatively a 2 egg mushroom onion pepper ham and cheese omelette with a large side salad is very filling.... take or leave the ham if you are wanting to cut your red meat....tastes just as good without the ham anyway as long as you have some nice mature cheese. I like to have avocado with my salad leaves, tomato and cucumber.
