Hi all,

We are having problems with breakfast spikes! Whatever Alex eats - he is always high 2 hours later. But if i correct him - he has a hypo just before lunch! I have tried injecting 10 minutes before breakfast - but he had a hypo straight after eating! Do any of you lovely people have any good ideas of how to get round this? Thanks. Bev

I have the same issue...its wierd...

Hi bev....

It could be down to his bolus insulin....rather than his fast acting...had the same with nathan......I did as you are doing gave him his insulin before breakfast..the same thing happened... I adjusted nathans bolus, then decreased his basal at breakfast. Other than that it could also be hormonal, or honeymoon phase.

Hope this helps

If it were me, I probably wouldn't correct it, I'd just allow the breakfast NR to bring it down by lunchtime. How high is high? The food seems to be taking longer to digest and missing the one-hour peak of NR, giving more NR at the 2hour point means there's too much NR later on for carbs consumed. 10 minutes before breakfast is probably going to bring the NR peak in too early, hence the hypo before the carbs have even begun to think about digesting. Just my thoughts, it's a tricky one and I'm not an 11 year-old!

Hi Bev

I have the exact same problem with my son. Just cannot seem to get it right after breakfast. But the odd thing is that it usually only happens on week days! I can only imagine that it is something to do with the fact that he eats breakfast an hour or two earlier in the week for school than the weekend. But i really not sure. 🙂

I would tend to agree with Northener, if he is high at 2 hours then see what he is at lunch if he is in range then the novorpaid dose was correct and you need to look more at the timing
