Our 4 yr old is T1 and for the past 2 yrs since diagnosis has struggled with morning spikes.

Initially tried high protein Skyr yoghurt which helped but wasn't enough . He won't eat egg (says 'yeuch' using a George voice from Peppa)

For last 2 weeks have given him peanut butter ensuring around 6-8 G protein and stir through some Nutella (about 5g weight ) to entice him to eat it. After that he seems to be able to tolerate anything - in last 14 days his blood has not spiked above 8.... miracle for us.

Just wanted to share in case anyone else struggling with this problem.

Welcome to the forum. I find breakfast really tricky too, but can cope with several things (all apart from breakfast cereals really) as long as I wait a good 20-30 minutes after dosing before eating my breakfast.

I found a large bow of porridge was giving me a spike, possibly because it was large. But I have found boiled eggs with mushrooms or Bacon are very good for me.

I tried porridge. I was ravenous half an hour later. 🙄 Peanut butter sounds the thing, I luvs it even if it does stick to the roof of my mouth.

Yes, peanut butter is really good for snacks on celery sticks or very low carb rivita (I've found one at 5.8g carb) per slice, so a couple of those with peanut butter on, is not going to spike you.

Same here...I used to jab, wait 15 mins to eat and always spiked up into the teens. On Tuesday, I started waiting 30 mins before eating - no spike! 😛:D😛 It's the longest 30 minutes tho...🙄

Hi LST and welcome - glad you've sorted out your little one's spikes too.🙂
