Breakfast ideas

Hi, I’m struggling with breakfast ideas given my type 2 diagnosis mainly for weekdays as I work full time and don’t have a lot of time. The obvious thought is toast or cereal but I thought I had to limit carbs. Should I skip breakfast as some advice I’ve read from the Dr Moseley books is to fast? Is porridge ok?

@Purdey welcome to the forum. Some of the choices depend on your medication, whether you need to lose weight and tastes. I was diagnosed a year ago and haven't eaten porridge since. I have a BG monitor and will when it is colder try. porridge again. What I usually have for breakfast is full fat Greek style yoghurt. My favourite is from M and S but it is personal taste. I have it with raspberry strawberry or blueberry. I noticed my local cafe adds a dollop of peanut butter which makes it more filling. Last year I used to pick blackberries a 5 minute walk from my house but they were dug up in spring. Some people add a spoonfull of granola. I adda few nuts either almond, hazelnut or walnut and sometimes seeds. You can buy them easily. Other times I have a mushroom omlette. This morning I had a couple of hard boiled eggs. I had half a dozen which were a bit old. I cooked them in airfryer dunked in cold water peeled and put in the fridge.
Once a week I have a fry up without hash brown or beans. I have a slice of bread a few times a week.

Thank you that’s really helpful. I’m on metformin but not sure it’s agreeing with me as upset tummy quite often. Yoghurt berries and nuts/seeds sounds ideal as I can take and eat at work.
 
Yes it's just an assembly job. I found it as a suggestion on the forum when I was new and positively enjoyed it. The M and S one is labelled 10% fat. Don't go for low fat or flavoured. If you want to check carbs on a supermarket one look under nutrition. My freezer isn't working at the moment but you can buy frozen berries. I've had yeo valley Tesco lidl etc. Some are thicker. M and S is close to the bus station I use if I don't drive to next town so M and S is convenient.
As far as metformin I started on one a day then 2 until I reached 4. At the lower dose I was bunged up but higher dose I was looser. I then changed to 2 x a day plus an SGLT2. I wasn't sure what I could eat with the SGLT2. I'm now on one day and my hba1c in December was 44.
My pharmacist prescribed slow release which is supposed to be easier on your stomach.

I tend to use the ASDA Greek Style Yoghurt which has probiotics which are good for gut health but recently bought a LiDl one which is nice but I noticed it doesn't have the probiotic live bacteria in it.

That's my regular breakfast. No seeds but a handful of crushed walnuts. 18g carbs in this bowl:-

My wife isn't diabetic but takes something similar into work, but with Kefir rather than Greek yogurt.
 
I often skip breakfast due to my working schedule but on the odd few days I have had it, greek yoghurt and raspberries / blueberries has never failed to hit the spot.

I also tend to do batches of boiled eggs for the occassional snack / addition to a meal so I have mashed up some previously boiled eggs and had that on a couple of wholegrain crackerbreads. The protein from the eggs in the morning also helps you to feel fuller for longer.
 
I make scrambled eggs, add grated cheese and a sliced tomato for a swift getaway first meal.
Eating grain of any kind first thing would slow me down a lot during the day, as it would cause a spike, then a drop in blood glucose and I'd be hungry before lunchtime.

My go to breakfast has become:
2 hard boiled eggs, chopped in half with some mustard and light mayo
Nature Valley Peanut and Chocolate Chip Protein Bar
200g Alpro Vanilla Soya Yoghurt
Cup of Decaf Coffee
UFit Strawberry Protein Milkshake
500ml water

617 cal
52g Protein
36g Carbs

Not ideal for everyone, but keeps me very satisfied until 2pm.
