Hi, just wondering if it better to go for a walk before eating breakfast or after eating breakfast in a morning.

We are all different. What works best for one may not work for someone else.
Many of us experience Dawn Phenomenon or Foot on The Floor where our liver dumps glucose into our blood to give us energy to start the day. As a result, our blood sugars may be higher first thing and exercise can help to reduce these before breakfast. On the other hand, some find eating something dulls the Dawn Phenomenon impact so they prefer to exercise after breakfast.
The only way to find out what is best for you is to test your bloods and try both (on different days) and see what works best.

Personally, I find exercise before breakfast is easier for me and my blood sugars.

Thank you for your advice. I like to go for a long walk early in the morning, usually over 2 hours, so I have something to eat before I set off. My blood sugar is 48 . Not testing or on any medication. Just trying to control my diabetes with diet and exercise, usually walking. I’ve cut a sugary things and am now reducing carbs . Hope what I’m doing is helping, there is a lot of conflicting advice and it can be hard to know what to do for the best sometimes

Welcome to the forum @Daffers with a Hba1c of 48 and as your unmediated you haven’t a lot of work to do sounds like your doing the right thing in increasing the exercise and reducing the carbs.

It might not be essential after all your not looking to half your Hba1c (unlike many of us are trying to do / have done)
But personally I would recommend getting a monitor and start self testing to help you understand what foods can be tolerated without spiking your BS levels.

Thanks helli, It’s hard to know if the changes I’m making with diet and exercise are helping when I only have a blood test once a year.

Hi @Daffers really is. A monitor is a really empowering tool and I wish GPs would recommend them more often!

Welcome to the forum @Daffers

If you think it would be helpful to monitor your own BG levels with a home meter, and find that your GP is unwilling to provide one, the most affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50

There are lots here who can help you interpret the results to improve your levels after eating 🙂

Thank you for your advice on getting a BG monitor, I will certainly think about getting one. Thought I would try and get another blood test done now I’ve changed my diet and do more walking to see if that is helping at all. A year is a long time to wait to see if the changes I’ve made are doing any good
