Welcome to the forum
By borderline I assume you have been diagnosed as prediabetes, this is likely to have been because the result of an HbA1C test would have been in the range 42-47mmol/mol . This a basically a wake up call to make some lifestyle changes, loosing weight if you need to, getting more exercise, making some dietary changes, how much you need to do will be indicated by how close you are to the top of that prediabetic zone.
There are many here who are or who have been in the zone and have pulled their blood glucose back into normal by making changes.
I found this link really helpful https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/ it is a low carb approach which made sense to me and also the book Carbs and Cals (there is an app or there similar apps) helped me with being able to make better dietary choices.
Diabetes can run in families, so it may be that you have a genetic predisposition towards developing diabetes, but this is not a guarantee, and it you make positive changes you could delay, or possibly even avoid a diagnosis with T2.
We have lots of members who have successfully reduced their glucose levels from being ‘at risk of diabetes’ away from the diabetes zone.
