Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,
I'm Lou.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 a few years ago, it was managed by diet ans exercise.
In December 2017 I was put into a medically induced coma for six weeks, during which I was put on to insulin.
I have been on insulin since

Recently, the diabetic clinic at the local hospital put me on Xultophy.
I am still trying to get used to being on insulin, controlling my sugars and my other illnesses, I admit I do struggle though.

So I am hoping to get everything under control soon, with maybe a wee bit of advice from you lovely lot!!

😛

Hi Lou and welcome to the forum. Glad that you have found us.
There is plenty of experience that you can tap into from people managing their diabetes day by day.

To help us help you would you like to tell us a bit more about how you manage your Diabetes.
You mention that you are in insulin now. Is this Multiple Daily Injections , with separate injections of a background insulin and another one to use when you eat food?

I am on Xultophy.
Its a one a day injection (mixed with an appitie suppressant).
With the rare injection of novo rapid.

I am trying hard to get my weight down. It would make things easier if i lost some weight.
But struggling to know where to start.
Ita like a mine-field and i have no idea what i am doing.

Hi and welcome to the forum. X

Ello @xloumike9089x welcome to the forum.🙂 Have you been shown how to Carb count.?

Am sure i gave at some point...just don't remember. X
Your glucose levels are directly linked to your intake of carbs.

It is the carbohydrates that get changed into glucose and taken into your blood stream.
A person without Diabetes would then release just the right amount of insulin to enable your body to use these or store them. Those of us with D don’t have enough insulin, it doesn’t work well (T2) or don’t make any insulin(T1)

Whatever form of D we have it helps to know how many carbohydrates you are eating at each meal. These come from sugars, but ALSO from any starchy foods, such as pasta, potatoes, rice. If you could work out how many carbs you are eating and then reduce these this could help both your Diabetes and the weight you are wanting to lose.

Thank you.
I have talked to my diabetes nurse at the hospital and they are sending me on the info course and a dietician.

Am hoping i will understand things better.

Hi
There are quite a few apps which measure carbs in every single food and do all the clever stuff like keeping running totals for each meal, day and week. My one is NutraCheck which measures calories, carbs, sugars, fats, sat fats, protein, fibre, sodium. So it helps me with weight loss and carb management and is £7.99 a month. A very popular free one is My Fitness Pal.
