Hello everyone.

I’ve been meaning to sign up to this forum for a short while.

About 3 months ago I got diagnosed with type 1

I look forward to reading a few of your posts and gaining valuable knowledge from you guys.

Hi @Jimmy2202 and welcome.

How’s it been going since diagnosis?

Hi @Jimmy2202 and welcome.

Hi Colin.

Yeah it’s been fine to be honest.

I’ve had a couple episodes before bed when my levels won’t go higher than 3.5 for about half hour which freaked me out and sent me into major panic mode but I need to learn to chill out and let the hypo treatments (jelly babies/pure orange juice) do it’s work.

I’ve learnt that during the day at work I don’t need to inject novarapid as I have a very physical job so I manage just by eating smaller amounts of carbs throughout the day.

I need to learn to properly carb count as I’m currently just winging it by eye but my levels are normally always In range

I’m T2 so can’t really chime in with anything useful but it seems like you know what you’re doing.
There are plenty of T1’s on here who will come by and introduce themselves I’m sure.

Have you seen the “Group 7 day waking” thread? It’s where most chat takes place and it also has the benefit of getting to know others on here quite quickly.

Sounds like you are developing some good test-review-adjust strategies @Jimmy2202

It’s possible that you may still have some residual insulin production (sometimes called the ‘honeymoon period’) which might be helping you during the day when you are physically active and more sensitive to insulin.

Diabetes will occasionally throw you some curve balls, and seems to delight in moving the goalposts just when you have got yourself sorted and things seem to be pottering along relatively smoothly, so don’t despair if things suddenly go out of whack and you need to readjust things - that’s just par for the course I’m afraid!

Well done on your great approach so far 🙂

Ahh yes I was reading about this honeymoon period last night. I’m sure it won’t as smooth a ride as I’ve had so far!
I have a 6 month old baby boy and a very busy business so I’m still learning to not over do it but we are managing.
Thanks for taking the time to reply

Welcome to the forum @Jimmy2202

It sounds like you have got your head round things and finding what works for you. You will find that things will change bit by bit and it is a case of monitoring things and making adjustments as we go. As @everydayupsanddowns has said that doesn’t mean it always follows the rules, and each of has times when Diabetes seems to decide to confuse things even though we have done exactly the same thing as before. It keeps us on our toes.

Do fire away with any questions that you have . It is great to be able to tap into the experience on here.
Nothing is considered silly. Just ask.

Hi and welcome
You can get an app to help you carb count. I use NutraCheck and there's also one called MyFitBit (I think). It's the first thing I did on diagnosis, and it quickly became a way of life.
