Hello,

I have a quick question regarding meals that are high in protein and fat. Tonight I will be eating steak with a stilton sauce (probably with some potatoes).

I would usually just ignore the no carb elements of a meal but I've read that some people cover protein and fat content in their bolus. Obviously as it's high in fat I will need to do an extended bolus (i'm on a pump) but should I factor in the protein?

This isn't something I normally eat so just trying to figure out to handle it and keep BG steady!

Hi there, welcome to the forum!

I don't tend to do it with any kind of precision, since the meals where it applies for me (celebrations/buffets/takeaway) tend to involve a fair amount of 'gut instinct'

This graph might give you a starting point: http://www.diabetes-support.org.uk/info/?page_id=438

I generally include an extra proportion to the carb bolus (115% - 130%) and then use multi wave/dual wave to spread the activity. However given the low carb content you suggest, you might want to estimate the amount of fat/protein involved.

At the end of the day we are all different - hope you manage to find a system that works for you 🙂

Thanks Mike, that graph is useful.

I guess it's a case of trial and error (as always!). Will let you know how I get on 🙂
