Type 2
Hello All,
I was diagnosed Type 2 late April 2021.
Started on Metformin, then went over to Forxiga. Since diagnoses and probably before I have suffered from physical aches throughout my body......not all the time, but perhaps 70%. It comes on like a build up, all most like you are starting with a cold. Sometimes it can last most of the day, but seems worse in the early hours of the morning.
Livers good, kidneys are good thyroid is good.
Two of my cousins have type 2 but have never experienced this.
I’ve made life style changes and I’m losing weight, but I wasn’t and never have been obese, I have always exercised and gone to the gym.
The Doctor has said, I was quite diabetic so that’s probably why.
Does anyone else recognise this, it’s massively debilitating, I just want to feel better!
All help gratefully received!
Thanks

Hmm 'quite diabetic'. An interesting and precise diagnosis.

I too had aches in my bones and elsewhere ( a lot of the time) and could hardly walk, but then I was overweight. After 6 months of low carb diet and increasing exercise. Weight has reduced. I have zero pain at any time.

It could just have been my weight except, all of the diabetic symptoms have gone.

Thanks Gwynn,
The original diagnosis, was an impersonal, phone call, by a locom who suggested I go on the internet and look up what type 2 is .
A face to face with my usual Doc told me I was 88 that being the quite diabetic apparently, at the time it didn’t mean a lot to me.
Anyway I start a Webinar tomorrow, it may give me some more pointers.
Congratulations on your new found body, outstanding result.
Regards

Sometimes people are automatically prescribed statins when diagnosed to reduce cholesterol as it regarded as necessary for it to be low, but in some people it has the side effect of joint or other pain. So that might be a reason if they were new to you.

Hi,
I’ve been on statins for about 13 years, I think. I’ve not had any problems with them in the past.
The doctor did change the type a couple of weeks ago, but the symptoms pre date this change.
Thanks for the interest all input is welcome.
Regards

Welcome to the forum @Gs1200

Good to hear that you have some extra information coming your way via Webinar - is that something offered by your local diabetes service?

Your 88 is most likely an HbA1c, where the level for a diagnosis with diabetes is 48mmol/mol. While 88 is well within the diabetes zone, we have had several members who started in 3 figures who have managed to turn things around very successfully.

Sorry to hear about your aches and pains. That sounds very difficult to live with.

Do you monitor your own BG levels? And have you noticed and patterns between your BG and the discomfort?

Hi,
Yes the Webinar has been offered by the NHS, not sure it’s it’s delivered by them. I don’t monitor my BG and that sounds like something I need to look into. A lot of the jargon is new to me at the moment and apart from this forum I’ve tried to keep away from internet searches as there seems to be a lot contradictory information.
I’ve tried to regulate my food intake and experiment with protein, carbs etc. To see if this improves the situation. I had 2 good days last week, the feeling comes on gradually and goes the same way, it’s really strange. It’s been with me all today.
Again thanks for the reply, it’s good to know there is forum like this.
Regards

Have you had your vitamin B12 levels checked as a deficiency can cause aching and joint pain.

Good question, will check. Doc, did say everything was fine and made the point that my liver and kidneys were in excellent condition...bit of a bright spot there!
I assume he would have checked. But you never know.
I came off metformin for a week to see if that was the problem, and he put me on the alternative, and tbh the new one is less harsh on the bowels.

Problems with the bowels and digestive system can result in low B12 as you are not absorbing it from foods. There are some medications and conditions where people do not produce the intrinsic factor needed for absorption of B12, when that is the case they need injections of B12 rather than oral B12 as they would not assimilate it from the tablets.
