Reacting to the Labour Party's proposals to fully integrate NHS and social care budgets, the BMA said health service budgets must be protected and not used to support an ailing social care purse.

The British Medical Association has branded Labour?s suggestion for full integration of health and social care budgets neither ?necessary nor desirable?, according to Pulse.

The BMA, in a response to the party?s policy review into care integration, asserted that the proposals could lead to the NHS budget being tapped to prop up underfunded social care, saying clinicians should remain in charge of budgets because of their expert knowledge of local health needs.
