Hi all,

Just a bit frustrated and wondering if my sight will come back to normal. I know you can't really answer that but happy to hear any thoughts.

I'm about 3 weeks in since symptoms including blurred vision forced me to visit my doctor. My long vision has always been perfect. I wear varifocals for reading and closer viewing. I first noticed the blurred vision when driving as I thought my glasses had got dirty. Although I can still read close up my general vision is completely blurred. My fasting bg's are coming down although throughout the day they are well above 10. I was told that my vision will come back and I have my eye screening in mid July...could there be a permanent change to my sight or will it improve and if so how long can it take. As driving is my job I feel really stuck at the moment...Feeling really frustrated and irritable...

Hi Rob,

Fluctuating BG levels (especially if they rise & fall a lot) have some profound affects on the body, sight included.... Try I aim for slow improvement In BG levels & keep the BG levels lower during the day.

Hi Bobbyboyyy

High blood glucose levels cause the lens in the eye to swell and change shape changing your ability to focus clearly and causing blurred vision. Things will improve when your levels get down to normal range. It is very frustrating but it is something that will resolve over time with the reduction in your glucose levels. If you need to get any glasses to help you through this period get some cheap ones to help whilst your body adjusts to good glucose control. Best Wishes.

Hi. Blurred vision is quite common . It can happen when your BG (blood glucose) is too high, fluctuating and when your BG levels are coming down.
I know it’s scary for you atm. If you decide to get your eyes tested, don’t t be persuaded to buy glasses.
In the meantime Some cheap reading glasses from a pound shop etc may help.
It took my sight about a month for my sight to get better.

Hi, I’m 3 months in now and my eyes are much better but still not completely back to normal, it’s the freakiest experience I’ve ever had, thought I was going crazy as it fluctuated so much, I ended up with 3 different strength reading glasses and would switch between them throughout the day! Be patient, once you get your bg under control. It will settle down 😎

Blurred vision was my first symptom and I was advised by my optician not to get new glasses for six months, to be on the safe side. It did take a while for my eyes to get back to normal, but it was weeks rather than months, and they have been fine since then. It's better if your readings come down slowly, as they are, as that's safer for your eyes than a sudden sharp drop in blood sugar, so it is just a question of being patient.

This is interesting.
Like others I had a problem with blurred vision in my right eye which ended up with the option suggesting I had a diabetes test as she could find no reason for it.
Now the interesting thing was that I wear contacts for distance a for about six months I had problems putting in my right lens because my eyelid kept knocking it out again.
I understand now from this thread that my eye was swelling and changing shape.
Once I got the lens in there was not a problem and it has finally resolved itself over the last couple of months or so.

Thank you Cathy. I have varifocals and now a set of reading glasses from pound shop. Not good as I drive for a living!

My eyes are like out of focus camera lenses!

diagnosed in feb
went for being short sighted (prescription around -2.5) to being able to meet standard for driving (read number plate @ 20M) without glasses easily but could not read a book untill I purchased a cheap (£1.50) pair of reading glass & no back to where I started in the course of about 6 weeks.
This is generally expected & your vision should settle down again shortly (the recommendation is not to get an eye test for at least 3 months whilst this takes place)
