I fancied getting a 'Blue Circle' pin/badge from the international Diabetes Federation, as international Diabetes day is due soon.

So I went to the IDF website, they have them in packs of 10, which worked out at about ?1 each, put them in the shopping basket, went to pay and to my amazement the shipping, by FedEx was ?11.87, more than the pins themselves!
Needless to say I did not bother

PS: The cheapest return flight to Brussels [IDF HQ] is ?31.

That's outrageous! I wonder if you can get them from anywhere in the UK? I was looking at the Diabetes UK Christmas catalogue and was pretty shocked to see their p+p costs: ?3 for orders between ?1-?10 and ?5.45 fr orders over ?10. I was thinking of buying some cards, but the postage practically doubles the cost :(

It makes life difficult when postage and packaging is so expensive and I am sure many good causes loose out with this

I contacted Diabetes UK, asking them if they could source the pins, still awaiting a reply.

It's not cheap to send things these days! 😡

My wife uses a fixed p+p of ?3 for her website (except when you spend over...) because she needs the to cover the cost of packaging and postage. Since the items are delicate, they tend to end up as "small parcel" once they are in the jiffy bag. 'Small parcel' costs ?2.70 first class.

A set of Christmas cards could probably go in large letter (~90p), but setting up a e-commerce website to figure the right postage based on what has been brought is a bit of a nightmare.

You could of course load all of the prices to cover postage, but that makes you look very expensive instead 😱

I did exactly the same on Monday. I didn't mind spending ?10 as I thought it would be good to give some pins to friends and colleagues to spread the word but no way was i paying that amount of postage.

I thought if they only sold batches of 10 some might end up on e-bay but couldn't find anything.

Regarding Christmas cards - do you have a "cards for good causes" outlet by you at Christmas time? Ours has been open a few days in a local church and there are some Diabetes UK cards there.

JDRF charge ?3 too. Seems pretty standard. :(
