Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
GP telephone appointment this morning, and thankfully he listened and wants full bloods, also he has agreed more likely type 1! (Weight loss, not reactive to meds etc) So hopefully i may get a little resolution to my hyperglycaemia, which has just become virtually impossible to manage at the moment! Reasonably happy

Good to hear your GP is at least considering you may be Type 1 and having more blood tests done but the specific Type 1 testing is best authorised by a specialist diabetes clinic, so a referral to a consultant at the clinic is something to push for and starting on insulin (ideally a basal/bolus insulin regime) in the mean time.

Good luck and let us know how you get on. Sometimes you have to be a bit pushy in a respectful way of course, in order to get the correct support and treatment.

If it turns out you are T1 you will join a crowd on the forum who have made the same journey, including me. I was 53 when finally diagnosed and taking the full journey through T2 medication.

That’s great news camperman! My gp did organise my type 1 bloods, although they had to order in special bottles as they do not routinely do them. Also I had to wait around 2 weeks for the results. Initially the doctors said my antigad was okay as it was not over 100, the consultant at the hospital disagreed as I believe a non diabetic will have <5 but a positive result is considered at >11. Mine was 55. This may have been a similar situation to yours as I remember you saying you were borderline before. I do not believe I came up positive for any of the other antibody tests. Did they say which test they plan to run and if a cpeptide urine will be included?

I agree with Benny G. What is the point of a treatment that has been shown NOT to work and withholding one that almost certain;y will.

Insulin NOW. And I would suggest a ketone test, which the Dr. might be able to do while you wait.

I had a similar experience, type 2, which they then said was uncontrollable diabetes. After the GAD antibody and C-Peptide test they said I was type 1, LADA. since taking insulin it has become so much easier to manage, although still a struggle at times. It took about 5 weeks to get the results of the test. good luck
