A new study from the University of Copenhagen's Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports demonstrates that formation of small blood vessels is impaired in the muscle tissue of postmenopausal women. The study's findings highlight the importance of physical activity for women prior to and during menopause, as a means to prevent the development of disease later in life.

The risk of developing cardiovascular disease generally increases with age. For most of their lives, women have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease than men, but the picture changes as menopause sets in. The exact reason has yet to be fully understood.

Oh yippy doo.

Any good news about getting older?

You're less likely to develop Type 1 diabetes
Is that true?
Recently, there have been reports of “mature” people being misdiagnosed with type 2 due to their age. I wonder how many people with type 2 on insulin really have Type 1.
One study I read said that more than half of people with Type 1 are diagnosed over the age of 20. I remember a small percentage being diagnosed in their 70s.

Is that true?

Yes, there's a chart floating around somewhere showing the proportions of people being diagnosed of Type 1 and Type 2 in particular age ranges. And it becomes less likely as you get older. Not impossible by any means, but less likely.

That might explain why it took so long for my lower leg muscles to recover after being affected by the kneejerk prescription of tablets at diagnosis. Even now when I practice isolating the muscles there I can feel that there are differences and the left leg wearies before the right one, and can go into cramps sometimes.
