Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping well, I'm due to have a phone appointment with my Consultant next week, but I have no paper work to have the blood test to check the usual checks, I'm worried that I can't just go to the my local hospital for this without any paperwork. Any suggestions would be useful

You might have to just miss out this time unfortunately. We haven’t had HbA1c done since last March, got one of the last in person appointments before they shut the clinics down. Phone consultation in June and they just used the predicted results from the Libre, don’t know how accurate they are. In September we were supposed to get a face to face appointment again but had to change to phone at the last minute because daughter was isolating due to a confirmed Covid case in her year at school. We had switched to a different pump and Dexcom sensors by then and they just used the data off that and seemed happy with how it was going. They were going to send out home kits to collect blood samples to do HbA1c so you take the sample yourself and then send it back, but that never materialised (they tried to do this a couple of years ago to save time at clinics, but I don’t think it worked very well so they stopped doing that, I could never get enough blood into the darn thing for them to be able to test it).
Our next appointment is January 20th, I was hoping and praying for a face to face appointment this time but that seems a lot less likely now, they usually send a reminder a few days before so that will probably tell me what to do!

Sorry that’s not very helpful, but if your consultant wants you to get the tests done they will find a way of doing them. Hope it goes OK!

Many test forms are done electronically now so you just turn up at the bloods clinic and they have the test info online BUT the consultants clinic would need to have set the forms up beforehand. Are you able to phone them and check what they will do. Without the blood tests any consultation is almost certainly a waste of time.

Hope your appointment is helpful this week @rosy_nic 🙂
