Hi. My 5 year old was upset yesterday when she had to leave the classroom and have a fingerprick. She missed a reading activity. I'm wondering if any one has any guidance on this issue and how it relates to the testing for hypos.

Hi Stell

I have also replied to your thread in the 'newbie' section.

Welcome to the forum Stell

Sorry to hear your daughter was upset and felt they were missing out.

Making your child leave the classroom if they don’t want to or need to doesn’t seem right to me. Have you had a chance to speak to the school to discuss it?

Hi. Thanks for the welcome. I've spoken to the school. the headmistress is less than helpful. But I'm very very tenacious 😉

Ah that’s a bit disappointing. Do you know if they have had much experience in the past? Not all schools have ever really had to deal with T1 and may know next to nothing about it. There are great packs of information for schools by Diabetes UK (make the grade) and JDRF.

You might also find your DSN would be happy to visit the school and talk to headteacher and staff if they are being rather less than helpful or
simply need a bit of a steer.

I don't think the school has much experience. The school generally is fine. it's the headmistress who's the problem. I'll keep you posted on what happens. There's a number of issues with the school which we really could do without. All the best
