So I went for my fasting blood glucose this morning. The nurse took blood abs said it needs sending off as they were checking other stuff too, Vit B12, Vit D, Thyroid, iron, etc. I thought a fasting blood glucose would just be a finger prick test

Sounds like your getting the full spectrum tests hba1c, iron, thyroid, b12, liver, kidneys and others, I had these a couple of weeks ago I wouldn't worry its part of your annual/bi annual/ quarterly checks (depending on your management /time since diagnosis).

I’ve never had a fingerstick check done at my GP surgery, they always take a bunch of vials and get a raft of lab checks done.

Some, but not all of them are preferred to be fasting (eg it can affect cholesterol results). Different surgeries seem to have different approaches, and some don’t ask people to fast these days, but if my appointment is early I generally wait to eat until after.
