Just phoned for the results - got the results but GP hasn't had a chance to review them. Red blood count is "borderline" i.e. 4.85 when the maximum should be 4.8. ESR is still raised at 38. Not sure whether these results needs follow-up or not - have to wait until tomorrow to find out what GP has said!

Good luck for tomorrow, I hope it's a good day for you :D Sheena

I hope you'll get the result you like to hear 🙂

Hope it's good news for you. Xx

Thank you everyone. The ESR (inflammation blood test) came back at 38 when it should be 10! I've been told to have it repeated in a fortnight..............

I hope that the next test is much better Amanda, it must be very frustrating to have to wait another fortnight.

This page suggests that 'normal' for a woman under 50 is below 20 mm/hr

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003638.htm

Whereas this page suggests that you can calculate 'normal' by (Age + 10)/2, so if you were 40 that would be (40+10)/2 = 25.

Thanks Northerner for checking - then it's not as much over normal as I thought - that must be good 🙂

OH picked up the blood test forms last night - they want to repeat the ESR AND the full blood count - that has now got me worried. I'm fed up with feeling awful and having to have blood test results repeated with no explanation as to what they think is going on

Ask. You are the customer.
Kelly.

Last time this happened, four months ago, I asked but never got an answer - apart from them not being able to identify why I felt unwell. Guess I will try asking again.

Hope you get some answers this time Amanda, although I guess they might just be trying to determine if it was a temporary problem last time.

I just phoned the surgery - they've told me that the ESR should be between 1 and 12 so they want it repeated because mine was 38 - to see if it is lower on the next test - but that is all I've been able to find out - no indication as to why it should be so high or what happens if it continues to be high
