Can I ask...

What is the difference between a kidney function test (blood) and a kidney urine test, and is this one of the annual diabetes checks? xx 🙂

Also, how popular are liver function tests (blood)??

A manda.

I can only speak of my own experience. When diagnosed with diabetes my kidney function was only 50% and as such I cannot be prescribed Metformin.
I have a kidney function test (blood) every 12 months, and a kidney urine test every 6 months. Although my kidney function has improved over time, they still will not offer me Metformin, because the guidlines say its not to be given to anyone with kidney function of 50% or below.

Hi Amanda I think the kidney urine test is to check specifically for microalbumeira which is the early stages of diabetic kidney disease. So far mine, touch wood, has always been brilliant with this but I've been told that my general kidney function test isn't quite so great........although one GP said this and another said there was no problems with my kidneys🙄 I have my liver function test automatically done every six months with my diabetic blood tests at the GP surgery
