Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi there my name is anne and i,m married to graham who is type 2 diabetic which is tablet controlled, just lately he has been having more dizzy spells with his blood sugars rising to between 11 and 13, hes a very stubborn man and wont see the doc, is this a problem i should worry about, hes been diagnosed for about 4 yrs.
Thanks Anne.

Hi Anne and a warm welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your husbands levels, what medication is he ? They is a worry if a diabetics levels run high for a long time and its not treated. Hyperglycemia can damage the vessels that supply blood to vital organs, which can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke, kidney disease, vision problems, and nerve problems in people with diabetes.I know its easier said then done but he really needs to see his doctor about this the last thing he wants are complications x

P.s how old is hubby?

I have a hubby in very much the same mould but for "stubborn" sometimes read "scared" perhaps ?

The highs you mention are not off the scale but they are there and, if left for too long, will do him damage eventually and there are things that can help him (and you) so perhaps some more nagging is on the cards ?

Good luck and keept in touch on here so we can give you both the support you may need.

All good wishes,

Hi Anne, welcome to the forum 🙂 I think you are right to be concerned, and I think he should be also as it may be that the dizzy spells may be caused by something other than higher than normal blood sugar levels - anything of this nature needs to be checked out, the earlier the better, as that gives the best chance for any treatment (if necessary) to have the most beneficial effect.

Do you know what his waking levels are, and when is he reading levels of 11-13? After or before eating? If after, how long after? It may be that he just needs to modify his diet to exclude or reduce types of food that may be the main culprits - things to watch out fr are anything containing large amounts of simple carbohydrates, like white bread, rice, potatoes etc. Bear in mind that all carbohydrate will have an effect on levels, so it is a case of discovering what he can tolerate best by methodical pre- and post-meal testing. The following is a useful guide:

Please feel free to ask anything that you are unsure of and we will do our best to help! I think that a bit of good old-fashioned nagging might be in order to get him to go to the doctor, and I suggest you go with him to make sure he gives the doctor the full story! 😉

thanx everyone for your replies, i have started getting him to do his sugars on waking, and in the afternoon after food, and got him an app for docs, by the way he is 56yrs, once again thanx and i,ll let you know how he goes. 🙂🙂
