Hello @Mini Mave ,

I am so sorry to hear that your blood sugar has risen. It must have been tough to hear especially since you thought you were doing everything right. In terms of benefits, we have some people were successful getting help, but it may be beneficial if you gave us a call and speak to one of our supporter care advisors.

If you are willing to share how you manage your condition, what sort of diet do you follow and what medication do you take as that will help people make any suggestions as to how you might improve your blood glucose level.
Do you perchance take steroids as they can cause blood glucose to increase.

Welcome @Mini Mave 🙂 The Citizens Advice Bureau are good for help with benefits. You’ll probably have to make an appointment because they’re usually booked up a bit ahead. You might also find Age U.K. helpful. They have a benefits calculator:

https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/benefits-calculator/

As for Coke Zero, it would probably be ok in an ‘emergency’ but I try to avoid sweeteners as much as possible. There was a study a while ago that said they mess up your microbiome (by affecting the bacteria in your stomach).

I second @Josh DUK ‘s advice to phone the Diabetes U.K. helpline. The number is at the top right of this page. I’ve called them two or three times over the years and found them very helpful.

Sorry to hear about the pains in your legs, and the rise in your glucose levels :(

Has your Dr suggested and changes to your diabetes management to try to gently steer things a little more into range?

It’s often wise to go gently reducing BG levels as you get older as you don’t want them to drop too much or too quickly, but there is the possibility that your raised levels may not be helping your leg aches?

Hope the Helpline can offer you some useful advice and support.

You can call them on 0345 123 2399, Mon-Fri 9-6.
