Blood reading differences after covid and or flu vaccine.

Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Has anyone noticed their reading going a bit haywire for a few days after the covid and or flu vaccine?

Yes. I had both a few weeks ago and BG was a little bit higher than normal for a couple of days.
I also felt a bit rough.

This is not uncommon after a jab.
Some vaccines will make some of experience higher BG. Covid vaccine has caused lower BG for some of us.
It usually settles down after a few days.

Thank you. I got my jabs on Thursday and readings have been a bit higher from normal 7 to about 10 for the last few day.

Yes, I had a week of obviously low readings after my covid jab, I had to reduce my basal dose in the end.

I actually still think I'm running a bit low (3 weeks later) but have put the basal back, I should probably do a more scientific test to work out what my rate needs to be, but life gets in the way. Would also be hard to ascribe it to the jab now as it's less pronounced, but the thought did cross my mind.

My blood sugar shot up within a couple of hours of my Covid vaccination this year. It then stayed stubbornly high for a few days, necessitating bigger boluses and increases in my basal rate. I don’t remember anything as extreme before, but this was the first time I’d had the Moderna Spikevax one. It also made my arm much sorer, gave me a bad head and neck ache, chills, and made me itch. It was very weird.

Same as my experience, and the same vaccine.
The first CovID vaccine I had gave me a craving for Red Bull and Kentucky Fried Chicken!

Blimey! Which one was that?

I honestly can't remember. There were, two, weren't there? I seem to remember it wasn't the Pfizer one.

Makes sense because I had the Pfizer one and had zero desire for Red Bull or KFC  Maybe you had Astra Zeneca?
That does ring a bell.
It was really weird, as the following day I walked up to local shop and had a red bull, then later on ordered KFC via deliveroo.

Both were absolutely disgusting and I haven't eaten either since! (And this was before I had T2D).

Yes I am with you on that. Gave up KFC years ago when we stopped eating a lot of highly processed foods and takeaways. Never was a fan of RedBull or any energy drinks.

I did drink red bull years ago, but stopped it. And KFC always made me feel sick!

I’ll buck the trend in the thread - I didn’t feel rough at all after my flu and Covid top-up his time. And my BGs seemed completely oblivious!

No energy drink or fried chicken cravings either! 😛

My BG went bonkers after my covid and flu vaccines, quite high for a couple of days, but I wasn’t sure if that was down to them or to stress.
My brother was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and I travelled across the country, straight after having them, for a visit before he embarks on treatment which could give him a couple more years. So a really mad couple of days.
It was hard to decide what had sent my readings mad, but pretty much back to normal, for me, now after 5 days.

Interestingly I've now gone back to my lower basal rate as I kept running low all the time, especially overnight. Not particularly exercise related as I've not been doing much (busy at work, felt rubbish after jab, then half term so not much spare time). Who knows if it's related, it's not clear-cut enough to point a finger at it. Flu jab tomorrow which may counter and push it back the other way! 🙂

Had both on Thursday (one in each arm) and nothing noticeable other than sore arms on Friday - better now, thankfully
