I check my BP every morning and for the last few weeks, it has remained quite constant in the 120-130 range. Suddenly this week it's gone haywire and I'm getting readings up to 150. Haven't changed meds, and am a bit concerned.

Edgar as you know you can never be too careful with Blood Pressure...why not give your surgery a call just to be on the safe side.

How long have you had the machine Edgar? They can fail after a while, so it may just be as simple as that. What are the lower (diastolic) readings? For example. '130/90' - the diastolic would be the '90'.

I'd get the nurse to check it out for you with their machine - maybe take yours along to compare.

It’s not usually the machine that fails, the cuffs can get worn and a bit leaky after a year or two of hard work.

I use an Omron machine, as do the surgery. They are the most reliable and accurate, and not particularly expensive.

When I had mine done by the Diabetic nurse last week she used a manual one.

That's the one I have

Lower readings vary from 60-80

Those are pretty good Edgar, from my limited knowledge on the subject. I was told that they consider the diastolic to be more important than the systolic, so around 70 is a good result. When I go to the surgery and have a test I get systolic readings in the 150-170 range, but put this down to 'white coat syndrome' i.e. the stress of knowing that you are being tested.

I'd get it checked out for your peace of mind, it may be something temporary 🙂

It was 136/71 this morning so I feel a lot happier with that reading.
