Hi can someone please explain the difference between a blood plasma glucose level test and a alc hemoglobin test as with the blood plasma my level was 4.2mm and the alc test was 4.8mm and taken 2 weeks apart

Orr it's just I had the a1c a few weeks ago and wsd 49mm ol, I had a full blood count test and some liver function tests yesterday, but when Ive looked at my results today they also did a blood plasma glucose level test yesterday which has recorded 4.2.mol,i don't go back for repeat a1c hemoglobin test until the 1st of Dec, so just a bit confused why they.did the plasma.one yesterday. Which test do they go off for diabetes

Lee - the HbA1c is the answer. The test you just had was not primarily to test your BG - it was for all the other things. However, being as they had some blood they did the lab equivalent of a fingerprick test too!

That's jolly nice and normal, so I wouldn't think your body is struggling an awful lot keeping your BG as it should be, at the moment. However if the HbA1c test result of 49 is repeated, that does indicate it struggles a bit more than it's supposed to perhaps more often than not. So ..... do you want to help it not get any worse? Do you need some idea of how you can do that? Or do you already know and are doing it already?

Hi, I need help to.make sure it doesn't get.any worse, I like my food too much but I'm 50 next year so need to look after myself a bit more.

Well it's only the carbohydrate you eat that your boy's having difficulty with, so you could start off considering what you actually do eat, identifying where the carbs are and thinking where you could reduce them. Perhaps you don't have to stop eating say spuds completely, perhaps have a couple less on your plate? One Yorkshire instead of 2 or 3 with a roast dinner. Fewer chips. One less serving spoonful of rice or pasta. Avoid 'exotic' fruit.

Whatever areas you can make savings in.

OK that's sensible advice, I always like my cereal on a morning can you tell me a healthy cereal that's tasty, suppose I can't have crun hy nut or flakes anymore

We had some expensive protien granola in the house that my son could no longer eat , it took me a few days reducing the portion till it di not push my BG up. Which was roughly half the recommended portion on the box.

The better way with cereal is to make it the 'sprinkle' on your breakfast, not the main part of it. So base the breakfast on full fat greek yoghurt and berries, then add a spoonful of granola over the top for texture and crunch.
