Hello Forum,
I have been diagnosed as type 2 Diabetes for 5 years , I am 53 years old and Male . I was prescribed 2000 mg of metformin (2* 500 mg tabs in morning and 2* 500 mg tabs at night ) and 45 mg of anagliptin . All was going well for the first few years and i assumed my diabetes was under control and doing well. I recently went into hospital for an operation and they checked my bloods as part of the process . i got a bit of a shock when my reading was 20.6 mmol and i have not had anything to eat for 12 hours ( due to having a general anesthetic). When i returned home that evening i checked my bloods twice a day for the next few days and they remained between 16.6 mmol and 20 mmol . To try and gain control of the blood sugars i went on a zero carb diet and have been on that for 4 weeks eating no carbs or sugar at all , only protein and vegetables ( non starchy ones so no carrots , parsnips etc). I have lost 13 lbs in the 4 week period but by blood sugars are still around 13.6 mmol which is the lowest i have managed in a month . Any ideas on what i can do to get bloods down to normal range or do i need a different approach ?
Any advice would be great .
